Gospel Music

Every generation throughout history tends to think that their days
were the best, that is why you will hear them saying " the kids of
these days don't do this,they no long greet,they don't dress well,they
don't do that " you know, Fagil Mandy says some kids don't even know how to walk..
It is just a human nature to admire the past days. However horrible or
difficult they might have been,we will always dig deep down and
remember some of the good moments we experienced. In the bible,we read
that the Israelite while slaves in Egypt, were mistreated by their
masters the Egyptians leaving them with no choice but a severe
miserable life. But even after God miraculously delivered them out of
that bondage, once in a while they wished they had stayed in Egypt
(Exodus 14:11-12).So sometimes it is just hard for us to do away with
our past,we will keep comparing it with whatever goes on in the
present and normally ,in our judgment the past appears to be better.I
mean the kind of food we used to have, the games, the culture, the
music, the list is endless. So recently I have been thinking about our
so called 'gospel' music and I kept wondering ,really what happened to
our music ? The gospel music I grew up eagerly listening to is so
different from what I less eagerly listen to now.Yes the technology
has changed and now we have better productions but I hate to say the
message or lyrics to put it in musical terms has changed from good to
worse .I am not a theologian but remembering what my dear pastor
taught me in that simple church with the most humble people I ever
met,he said the word gospel means Good news, good tidings and I grew
up knowing gospel refers to the good news of Jesus Christ,a message
that points people to God.
As a kid in Sunday school,we used to sing songs that talked more about
heaven than earth.Omubbi talinya ku gali ya yesu,Omuyaye talinya ku
gali ya yesu ( a thief can't go on to Jesus' train,.....)
Amanyi gange gava mu Yesu, wendiva wano amazima silisibula, ewaffe
siwano amazi ewaffe mugulu.(my strength comes from the lord, when I
leave here I won't say good bye, here is not our home, our home is
heaven ) .
we had artists like Fiona mukasa,oh mai,you would hear her songs
everywhere on every occasion ,wedding parties, funerals, church, every
where, they were songs that would get you thinking on nothing else but
God who is in heaven where we knew was our home after here.we had
Betty Namaganda,Robert Ssenyonga,Kirwana mark Africa,Pr George Okudi, l
, limit X.....etc.I don't get to hear these voices any more, the kind of songs
that kept us focused seeing ourselves as sojourners, pilgrims, travelers
reminding us that life on earth is not the end but a transition into
eternity.
Today the Church of christ has been attacked by evil spirits of
individualism and materialism.Today most people are focused on
themselves and what possessions they can gather for themselves.I think
we should not blame them for thinking that way because it is what they
have been taught by their spiritual leaders.Today most ministers
emphasize material gains than a sound relationship with God,telling
people to give offertory so as to receive later, the world is built on
the principal of getting more as you you can but God's way is built on
giving more to him.
You see they say what goes in must come out,if it is individualism
that has been sown in their ears, there is no doubt the same should
come out through the songs they compose because music is an expression
of what is on the inside, what you believe. Most ' gospel ' songs I hear
these days are personal testimonies of how one was poor but now they
are rich,of how they were in the village and now they are in town as
if village is a bad place to be in.Whatever they sing most of it is
about I,I,I ....and earthly possessions .You see musicians are leaders
who influence a great following ,so this kind of music has made us to
get so attached to this world, paying very little attention to God's
purpose for our lives.Whereas we sing about God and Jesus,we believe
and trust him in the context of ' Using Him ' to fulfill our self made
purposes of establishing ourselves on earth with many titles and
wealth instead of surrendering ourselves to him so He can ' use us '.
Some of us after we have used God to gain whatever we wanted to get,on
the last day of our transition to eternity we will find out we have
been running very fast but in the wrong direction .God will just ask
us a question we have heard several times, for what profit is it to a
man ,if he will gain the whole world but lose his own soul ?
Jesus said " I am the way, the truth and the life.No one comes to the
father except through me." so we really need that money, man with money
life can be very nice on earth,we need that house of our own so we
should stop worrying about our land Lords but while pursuing all that
which bring us happiness ,we should not lose sight of eternity ,we
should know that even the richest people need Jesus who is the only
way to eternity .Paul while writing to the church in philipi said "
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for
the interests of others." philipians 2:4.
Let Gospel music be the good news about God's love for humanity ,let
it bring hope to the dying ,those who find earthly possessions a
chasing after wind.Let it bring joy and a divine passionate purpose to
the rich who can't find peace in their wealth.Let gospel music speak
to the poor without wealth to live life without complaining because
these present sufferings can not be compared to the glory that will be
revealed in us.Amen.

Letter to Obama

Omutuzze
  Uganda

To:H.E Barrack Obama
white house USA

Your excellency following your letter which you addressed to Uganda
following the decision that had been made by the lawmakers of Uganda
to criminalize homosexuality,on behalf of my country I would like to
thank you for taking some time to monitor our progress, for the good
book says ' we are our brothers' keepers 'quoting from your
letter,you said.
"That is why I am so deeply disappointed that Uganda will shortly
enact legislation that would criminalize homosexuality,"
Your excellency,we are so sorry to learn that we have disappointed
you,if it is possible please we request that you find a place in your
heart to forgive us,because honestly we did not intend to disappoint
or hurt anybody. How I wish that there was a better way to avoid
homosexuality in our society than enacting a law against it.So since
we can't find a better alternative ,we hate to disappoint you sir,I
hope on this issue we will agree to disagree.
You also said
"The Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda, once law, will be more than an
affront and a danger to the gay community in Uganda. It will be a step
backward for all Ugandans and reflect poorly on Uganda's commitment to
protecting the human rights of its people."

Your excellency,my people and I would like to agree with you that
yes, enacting this law will indeed be a step backward ,but backward
from a wrong path unto a right one.
In the good book we believe in,it is written.
" Stand in the ways and see,and ask for the old paths, where the good
way is,and walk in it;Then you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah
6:16.
For we believe God was wondering what took us too long to decide the
right path, that sex should be practiced in marriage and marriage
between a man and a woman .we believe that sexually God intended them
to be male and female. For he said
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to
his wife, and they shall become one flesh."genesis 2:24.For such a
right,no man should rob from them. And we are just saying ,to force someone
to practice homosexuality ,is violating their natural human right.
Your excellency,in your letter you also said,
"As we have conveyed to President Museveni, enacting this legislation
will complicate our valued relationship with Uganda,"
Your excellency ,I don't see why this issue would go that far,You see
one of your men there in the USA by the name of Rick Warren said
"A journey is always better when shared" .The US and Uganda have been
sharing a journey for a very long time, can't we just make this thing
work without 'complicating' our relationship ?
but anyway,if the cost of this anti gay law is a complicated
relationship ,then I think we will have to pay it,and we will pay it
with joy because we know ,this law will shut up the gates of a fiery
Hell and simplify our relationship with God who is in Heaven.
Your excellency ,I have tried taking care not to use harsh words and
if in any way I have used an inappropriate word,I beg to be pardoned.
Finally I would like to ask for a favor if I may, that if you happen to pass by Utah ,your excellency
I ask that you say Hi to my friends there at the Mormon church not
forgetting those in Virginia. To those in Kansas ,please ask them to
show the Homosexuality community there some love by serving them not
threatening and denying them service.Tell country singer Allan Jackson
that I know Jesus too and I talk to God and I remember this from when
I was young,Hope,Faith and love are some good things he gave us and
the greatest is love.
For God and my country.
Yours Omutuzze

The law

Sin is a condition of the heart.
It is 9 pm and I am going through the news feeds on twitter on my old
out dated smartphone, then suddenly I stumble upon the tweet by NTV
updating on how Museveni has accepted to sign the anti homosexuality
bill after hearing from the experts that gays were not
genetically wired to be that way. After a few minutes, going through the
other social networks I find more tweets and comments applauding the
decision.
at this moment it reminded me of the time the right honorable Rebecca
Alitwala kadaga went to Canada and bravely stood up to defend our
lovely country against those who were trying to undermine our
sovereignty as an independent country, and in part of  her speech she
said

"If homosexuality is a value for the Canadian people, that's not a
problem for us, that's it's issue, but one shouldn't force Ugandans to
accept homosexuality because we're not Canadian citizens," Kadaga said
to applause from the floor.
"We have our problems, they have theirs."
The Uganda Parliament is debating a proposed legislation that seeks
tough penalties for aggravated homosexual convicts.
And you see this bill came to the parliament as early as 2009 as a
private member's bill by Ndorwa West member of parliament David Bahati ,it is one of the
bills which has had a lot of hot debates in and out of parliament,if
you can remember at one time the religious leaders from all the major
denominations had to sign for it be withdrawn from parliament but
still it stayed because it had become a property of parliament. And
yes, after close to five years it is yet to be signed.
So after it has been signed, what will happen? will homosexuality go
away? or perhaps the practitioners will flee to another country,I
don't think so. You see normally the law does not state how a certain
crime should be prevented or done away with,it instead states how a
criminal of a given crime should be punished, the law is just a
reminder of our sins,it does not give any remedy to the problem. It is
in all laws, religious and state that it is wrong to steal, but have
people stopped stealing ? Murder is bad, don't we still have people
killed by one another ? So we are grateful to God that finally we are
going to have a law in Uganda that reminds us that homosexuality is
wrong and punishable but I don't think that is enough.
I don't like people who show me problems ahead without giving me some
of the possible solutions,I want someone who will tell me "
brother, that stage is difficult but don't loose heart, you can do this
or that to get along safely ".
Comedian Keneth Kimuli aka pablo normally says certain things are
called by different people differently, for example on bad morals,a
teacher might say "that is indiscipline",a doctor says "unhealthy",a
lawyer might say "unlawful" while a house wife says "bad manners" but
actually all of them would be saying that something is not good.
So this homosexuality thing, whereas the state says it is criminal ,as
a christian I just say it is a sin,and anything concerning sin,no man
can do away with it in his own ability. However perfect and innocent we
try be,in one way or the other we have always lost the mark breaking
the law ,just that on many occasions we have not been noticed as they always say that you are not guilty until you have been proved so.Some of
us are thieves,adulterous,haters,
fornicators,corrupt
,tribal, selfish, proud et cetera not because we don't know that these
things are wrong ,the fact is we know very well that these things are
wrong and we wrestle day and night to stop doing them,to change our
lives and be good people doing what is right before God and men but we just can't .
The apostle Paul in the good book

Romans 7:15 says " for what I am doing I don't understand, for what I
will to do I do not practice ,but what I hate, that I do"
Sin is a spiritual thing, there is no law, doctor nor prison that can
take away people's sins.It is only God who can break us free from our
sins. The bible says many came to John the baptist inquiring whether he
was the Christ, the bible says one day when Jesus was passing by,John
saw him  and shouted saying
The Lamb of God - The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! john 1:29
Now after the Law (bill) has showed us our wrongs (sins),as a wrong
doer You must ask yourself the fundamental question,"what shall I do?" will you hide,or may be
you will stop committing those crimes, will you flee to another country
? perhaps you can't afford that.
Everyday we carry our sins, our burdens on our backs too heavy to bear
as we journey to a certain unknown future, the world reminds us of how
bad we are, sometimes the church does the same  showing us hatred
and we feel lefty alone in a crowded place where we call home. But one
thing is true, that when we confess our sins to God,he is faithful to
forgive us.
1 john1-9.
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
At the cross of his Son Jesus Christ, our heavy over weighted
burdens on our backs, our guilty and shame all are exchanged with his
grace giving us freedom and everlasting peace.

Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever, until now He still says ,"Come".

Acacia mall

Skyline for Uganda's capital Kampala
Kampala's middle class suburbs

A skyline is an artificial horizon that a city creates.A skyline is
said to be the Fingerprint of a city because it is also believed that
skylines can never be the same just like human fingerprints or thumbs
can not be alike. So masaka cannot be like the best town Mbale in the
east.

You know senvo, his excellency the president of the Banana
republic, sorry it was a slip of the tongue, the president of the pearl
of Africa Uganda says Ugandans are lazy and only like to sleep, play
sex,go betting and take alcohol, may be he is right to some extent but
some of us work very hard doing almost every decent work with our
hands only that the returns are not yet realized. But some people are
doing well people are busy investigating, sorry manya investing, you
know english is not my first language, the government just procured
some for me from Bona basoome (UPE) school and so like mayor Seya
sometimes I have a problem differentiating the meaning of words.Anyway
like I was saying,a lot of investments are being made especially in
real estate facilities. Many people have called them mushroom buildings
given the speed at which they are being put up.Among these there are
some very significant ones that are decorating our City's skyline or
you can call it city's fingerprints and if Jennifer Musisi was
electable through ballots,we would see her convincing her voters how
she has built state of the art structures, wabula politicians, they
like ripping from where they have not sowed. You see now no one is
talking about sports, but after one self motivated individual brings a
Gold home you will hear them allover the media houses trying to share
the limelight.Someone described a politician as ' someone who has the
ability to promise something and later come back and explain why they
failed to do it"

Two years ago a contract was made between Mukwano group and Roko
Construction company to put up a premium world class state of the art
shopping mall at Kisementi Kololo called Acacia Mall along acacia
avenue.
After the signing ceremony,Alykhan karmali the managing Director
Mukwano group told the press

" we have an ambition to turn the face of Kampala by constructing one
of East africa's premium shopping malls and offices"
"the construction works will be handled by Roko Construction and a
team of top notch architects and consultants"
Roko construction managing Director Dragomir Lakic said they would
complete the construction works by september 2013
After the appointed time has expired,I bring you the changes in the
air updates on how far the project has reached in pictures.

Education

Years of discovery

"Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the
people who prepare for it today."
- Malcolm X
when we were young we were so inquisitive, asking questions about
almost everything, and school to some of us was a place of discovery,a
window to the unknown world,it was away of joining us unto diverse
people with their unlike cultures from all walks of life.Rich and poor
families who understand the priceless value of education send their
children to school into hands of strangers with a hope that their
children with time will get along well with them ( teachers and fellow
pupils). we were taught vowels and the alphabet in a very interesting
funny way without knowing exactly how important it would be in the
future.
I can recall the songs we used to sing which would help us memorize
what we were being taught easily;

Axe baazi banana matooke,Cup,cup kikopo Drum ye nggooma,Elephant ye
njovu fish kyenyanja Girl ye muwala House Enyumba again,

you know

ffe tuli embata eto, tetumanyi kubala, tubala ngatudamu, emu bili satu
nya, tano mukaaga musanvu munana mwenda nekumi uncle.
(We are young ducks and we don't know how to count,we count repeating
over again,1 2 3 4,5 6 7 8 9 and 10 uncle)

As the years went by,our learning kept elevating bit by bit, from
numbers and letters to words and sentences, then sentences and
punctuations, then stories and comprehension of stories to derive
meaning.Ever watched Akeelah and the bee ?  I found it very
educative,it is a movie about a spelling bee,the professor trying to
encourage one of the participants(Akeelah) said that there was no need for her
to fear the competition,he told her that however complex a word might
be,it has it's basic simple word. For example the word academiotics
wouldn't be that complex if you knew it comes from the word
academe.Any way of cause no kindergarten teacher would begin to teach
their pupil such words, but as you keep studing, you are introduced to
new things.
I hope many remember SST (social studies) where you are asked
questions like, what is an Environment ? ,what is a map ? etc, from
studing about and drawing Uganda to letting you know there is an East
Africa and an Africa at large, then other continents of cause,I did'nt
know there was an Antarctica until I was in form five of high
school. And today as technology advances we hope to see more and more
discoveries yet to come which of cause will later be included in the
curriculum in schools.

This continuous process of discovery is what can be called
Education.it is expected to be got from school formally, but if you are
to consider it keenly, you will find that most of it is got from home
( community ) since education is a process of discovery,it is from
home where we first discover most things. At home we learn what is
edible and what is not,how to get what to eat, handling our personal
hygiene, how to relate with other people et cetera.
Whatever kind of education ( discovery ) we get,it should prepare and
help us to face the world independently,as the good book has adviced

Train up achild in the way he should go,And when he is old he will
depart from it. proverbs 22:6

In Poor dad rich dad ,Robert Kiyosaki says "the thing with education
is that you become what you study"
Some people have defined education in different ways but it is all
related to learning something new;One said

Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.
- B.F. Skinner, 1964

Do you remember what you were taught back at school? I mean the
ยต,%,the pie chart,logarithm,Mussolini,Bunsen burner,area of a circle and
all the other scrap which caused you sleepless stress filled
nights. Most likely you won't remember all,but that which you remember
however small it could be and you are always using it in everyday
life,is what one could term as education. Some one said "nothing is
useless if you use the experience wisely"
which gets me to another view, others say education is experience,it is
not something that is just passed to you passively, you have to go
through it yourself, you need to test it.Sometimes you won't know
something but when challenged to try it out,you will master it.when we
were kids we didn't know how to do certain things, but after we
observed and tried them out however difficult they seemed to be,we
learned them and now they seem obvious to us which was not so then.So
education is practical experience.
Education therefore according to me based on a non-extensive
research,is the ;Acquisition of knowledge, experience and attitudes to
face the world.
Many people look at education as a key to material gains,a
job, money, house, cars and the like, which is not a bad thing, the trouble
always comes when one goes to school, attains academic certifications
and fails to get the material rewards they had expected. They will feel
bitter and be tempted to think that perhaps their years at school were
spent in vain. Some will be blamed by uncivilized society for spending
all those sums of money and time in an unprofitable business.
but you see education is not an expense with some monetary value,it is
an invaluable investment which always brings both visible and
invisible returns.Gone are the days when education was thought of as
being for only the rich,In this age education is not a luxury you
indulge in by sending your child to school,it is a necessity
,something you can't live comfortably without.the Baganda say
"obutasoma buluma bukulu" literary illiteracy pains in old age

Because one is not formally employed in some fancy corporate company
it does not mean that their school years are useless, you know they say

"A master can tell you what he expects from you.A teacher
though,awakens your own expectations."

If you let education open your eyes, you will always see that what you
put in your head is far better than what you invest outside.
I remember the motto of my primary school was
' knowledge is power '
and our school mission was

"we strive to produce useful and productive citizens for today and tomorrow "

Close to 13 years since I left that elementary school, but when I
reflect on those words today I now understand them better than I used
to.Indeed knowledge is power,we now live in the information saturated
age, those who know something that is not known to other people have a
better welfare than the later.
Any kind of education should prepare us to be self sufficient,I thank
my parents who taught me more than I learnt from school,Dad used to
wake us very early when sleep is sweetest to go farming,I used to feel
so bad,I always wanted him to find his hotelia work far away from home
like he used to do most of the time, because then I would dodge
digging.
there are questions most kids hate, you remember ? "Did you bath? have
you done your home work? when are you going to school? wake up".I saw
them as a punishment then but now I find them a great stepping stone
to my hopes and dreams in today's fast changing world.Today no one
wakes me up to go for work, I do it myself without excuses because I
know responsible people earn their living.

"But before any great things are accomplished, a memorable change must
be made in the system of Education and knowledge must become so
general as to raise the lower ranks of Society nearer to the higher.
The Education of a Nation, instead of being confined to a few schools
& Universities, for the instruction of the few, must become the
National Care and expence, for the information of the Many."
- John Adams, in a letter to Matthew

Through the MDGs ( melinium development goals ), credit be given to
the government for the implementation of free formal Education for
those who can't afford it.There are so many issues with UPE (universal
primary education ) and USE (universal secondary Education ) some
people substituting Universal for useless ,but wait, like I said
nothing is useless if you use the experience wisely .I am a product of
UPE and I passed in first grade, but putting grades aside, that so
called useless education has prepared me for further formal and
informal discoveries .In today's world,to a greater extend what
matters is not where you went to school but your attitudes towads
life.

You can study from good schools but if what you learnt there does not
challenge you to be creative and self reliant,if all your life you
have learnt to be on the receiving side being spoon fed by
teachers, then that education may not be so helpful,With that kind of
Education system we can not have more Bill gates-microsoft,Jack Dorseys-twitter and
steve Jobs-apple who have redefined world-wide day to day operations, and
they did that because they, deep in their hearts knew that 'education
is not the certification paper that you are given on graduation, rather
it is an eye opener or trigger of inner endowed potentials which
invent extraordinary revolution.'

Sometimes what you learn along the way to a goal is more valuable than
the goal itself.
Good education should be that which keeps us thinking to find
solutions to challenges around us.even if we haven't learnt a lot of
practical professional skills yet,we expect to use our reading and
writing skills to discover things for ourselves, let us say locating
places using sign posts, communicating through written and spoken
languages, reading literature materials to draw information et cetera.
I have heard some people say that if you want to hide something from
an African, you put it into writing.Just because we don't have a
reading culture. Many people prefer television to reading.

"I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the
set, I go into the other room and read a book."
-- Groucho Marx

when you are watching television, your brain is put in the box of the
director of that drama, but with reading, your brain operates with a lot
of freedom ,you create your own images and scenarios the way you want
them.

The natural law of learning states that whatever you learn must come
out in a more thought-through productive way, whatever goes in must
come out,the apostle paul of the bible said to Timothy his spiritual
son that

"And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses
,commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" 1
Timothy 2:2

A teacher must teach,a doctor should attend to patients as a
journalist speaks for the weak and voiceless. The problem is that at
school we were taught with high expectations of working for money, and
with such a mentality we shall continue to be a strainous burden to
our communities.

"The greatest opportunity in life is being faithful with what is in your hands"

Whatever level of education that you receive, under any
circumstances,it must produce fruits to nourish the community.

"Poverty has many roots, but the taproot is ignorance."
- President Lyndon B. Johnson

- Sir Claus Moser
However much the African governments will try to help their people to
come out of poverty ,this won't be possible until we get right
attitudes and experiences in terms of good Education towards life.
The youth fund ( loan scheme ) won't be successful until we learn how
to handle our personal finances, most of us don't have a saving
culture, just because our parents from whom we were to learn from did
not have it,and school also does not teach this.so even if we get a
lot of money, without this financial discipline we can't get out of the
vicious circle of poverty. With the right financial literacy, some
people wouldn't even need a loan for capital (Entandikwa).
Some of our parents have poor spending habits and so it can't be a
surprise if the children do the same proudly calling themselves names
like Bigspender,uncle money,.
Education has never been cheap to aquire,if you want to have it you
need to get out of your comfort zone.
one professor said

if you think education is expensive, try ignorance

"Education costs money, but then so does ignorance."
- Sir Claus Moser

This is one of the contraversial statements of all time, but to be
honest ignorance is very costly .The bible says

my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge ,because you have
rejected knowledge I will also reject you from being priest for
me;because you have forgotten the law of your God,I also will forget
your children. Hosea 4:6

It is God who teaches us but to profit and have our knowledge and
experiences affect the world positively.

Virgins

Maintaining Absteince
®Recently I was having a guys' casual conversation with a colleague and
some how we began arguing about the existence of virginity in this our
modern society.Ok I am a christian and I believe in the 'no sex before
marriage' moral code, but my colleague was trying to convince me that
that is old fashioned,I asked him where he had left his christian
beliefs and he was like
" Okulozaako tekilimu satan.Watya nga tazaala ? " (there is no sin in
tasting first, how about if you find out later that she is barren ?).I
told him " but you see anything done out of faith is a sin,a christian
lives by faith and not by sight " but I think I couldn't convince him
enough.

So that is how we began the argument of whether virgins still exist. My
friend refused nakomba ne kwelima ( licked on a sharp hoe ) a way of
stonch concrete resistance, stressing that in today's world even the
15 year olds know what sex is as in having experience in what it feels
like.
But I am a kind of person who believes that because many people are
doing something it does'nt mean that every body is envolved in it.
One day when prophet Elijah of the bible ran away for his life because
Queen Jezebel sought to kill him,the Lord spoke to him and said

"....what are you doing here Elijah? "
Elijah answered and said
" I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts, because the
children of Isreal have forsaken your convenant, torn down your alters
and killed your prophets with the sword.I (alone) am left, and they
seek to take my life."

The Lord answered
Verse 18 "Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Isreal ,all whose
knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him."
(1 kings 19 : 13-18)

So while Elijah at a time when his world felt so small,he assumed
there was no body else who still worshiped the true God,hence he had
it in his mentality that him Alone was left, but instead God looked at
that as a one size feats all blanket statement. Therefore, though you
don't see them,I strongly believe virgins still exist, and the
following are some of the many reasons why I believe so;

1.Shyness
shyness is a feeling of fear for something that could happen as a
result of doing something, that definition sounds dissatisfng,
ah?,ok,shyness is also related to a social phobia, low self
esteem, social anxiety, and because these feelings are negative, the
victims always have a choice to make called fight or flight response
where by one can chose to confront the fear when it comes or they
could just flee and escape to avoid the fear.So we have people male
and female who because of certain reasons, are generally shy. When they
encounter someone of the opposite sex they feel like a rat cornered by
a mouse,if they manage to say a word, they can't even look them in the
eyes.Their tongue is too heavy to even utter the word sex, they are so
brilliant in many areas of life but sex is a no go area,a
phobia.Because of this,many are still virgins out there,you can't
identify them because they have created caves for themselves to hide
into, they have a self imposed isolation.

2.Identity Crisis
We have people who have no definate idea of who they are and what they
want to be in life, they are like high school students who study over
10 subjects,mathematics,physics,divinity,biology,history and they are
not yet sure of what they want to do in their academics journey. That
is why we now have sexual orientations like
straight,bisexual,heterosexual,homosexual,asexuality et cetera,some
people don't know that sexual intercourse is only supposed to be
between a man and a woman,I hear they want to alter this definition
from ancient dictionaries so they can include perverse views of what
sex is.
So amidist this biological confusion, some people are not yet sure of
who to have sex with. But anyway,my dad always told me that common
sense is not common !

3.The existence of perfectionist
In this information era where people receive information on what is
happening all around the world easily through different channels of
the media, magazines, internet social networks, hollywood movies et
cetera, people have been affected by an illness known as Obsessive
Comparison Disorder, where by many people have obtained an illusive
view of how sex should be,they have created fictitious fantasies of
their ideal sex partners, and they can have sex with no one but only
that illusionary person they have created deep in their minds,so to
them, the real people around them are not up to the standard but
backward, unstylish villagers. So such people have not had sex due to
scarcity of sex material partners as some have said that " virginity
is lack of opportunity ".

4.Culture
Many people have not had sex and only aim at having it while in
marriage because of strong observations of their culture.here in
Africa virginity is or was a highly observed virtue in society and to
be a virgin was a sign of good morals, you were considered " unspoilt
",though that culture has been greatly damaged by the liberalization
of the western world through new cultures passed through hollywood
movies and the like, yes Hollywood's wolf of wall street was banned in uganda, there are still people who have managed to
preserve themselves.forexample in many parts of india having sex
before marriage is a cultural taboo and 'brides to be' are sometimes
subjected to virginity tests.
Also in some cultures people don't talk about sex,it is looked at as
bad manners,so you grow up knowing little or nothing about sex,in some
cultures it is just after you are ready for marriage that elders sit
you down to talk about it.

5.Hatred
Some ladies, because of what they have seen and heard about men raping
women or children,beating them,neglecting their families,denying
pregnancies, they have developed a bitter hatred towards men. They view
them as irresponsible beasts who just use women to satisfy their
sexual needs. In this way many ladies have remained virgins because
they don't want to risk giving themselves into men in fear of falling
victims.

6.STDs and other consquences
STDs espeially Hiv/Aids has claimed many lives around the world mostly
in Africa and as a way to reduce on the infection rates, various
measures have been formed to increase public awareness against the
killer diseases.Uganda, one of the countries applauded for seriously
fighting the disease has been emphasizing ABCD -Abstinence,Be faithful
,Condoms or Die.
The church does not support the use of condoms instead she has always
emphasized -A,B that is Abstinence ,and Fedelity (be faithful) for
married people .Therefore many young people against temptations have
stayed virgins as the only sure way to be disease free.

7.Vision
Once while in a youth conference, each of us was asked what they hoped
to be in future, and with a piece of paper each,we outlined our dreams
and forwarded them, the speaker that day said all each of us had
written was great, but then he also added that most of those who had
been before us had the same or even greater dreams but never came true
and among the reasons why that is and was so is Sex.
we were adviced that every time you think about sex,you must also
think about responsibility. The two go hand in hand.As agirl, once you
get pregnant and you are still in school ,you could be forced to drop
out.For a guy if you make a girl pregnant also you could drop out to
take on responsibility or in case of defilement, you might go on the
run,all these will greatly reduce the speed towards your Vision and
dreams. So to avoid inconveniences and interruptions, many people have
maintained a desciplined Life to stay virgins until the right time.

HOME TOWN

Republic street Mbale town

I come from Mbale in eastern Uganda and apart from male circumucision
we also own other things, for example we have beautiful country roads
leading to owesome slopes of mount Elgon,we have many churches, almost
all denominations you have ever heard of,and yes the Thanks giving
feneral service of his excellency the late Milton Obote was held at St
Andrew's cathedral mbale. We have great schools ranging from
elimentally to tatiary institutions,we have a Major referal regional
hospital,Hotels, cinema halls, radio and Tv stations and most of the
things you would expect in a big town.
having all this back in my hometown, still I had to leave,at first I
never planned to stay away for long but then I think sometimes we are
not tall enough to have a glance at our future,I am not alone, many
other people my age, that is the 20-something commonly known as the
mellenials have also lefty their hometowns for Bigger ones.there must
be some serious reasons why someone mighty move away from their home
to some strange foreign location because in many cases it is a painful
experience to leave given the strong ties you have with people there.I
love or rather loved my hometown, and though I always dreamed of
touring around the world,I never had plans to settle somewhere away
from home,I did not plan to leave because no body did,and so to stand
at the highway cross roads to choose between hometown and other places
and you choose a place far off kind of seems a selfish
move, conciously sometimes I feel like,by leaving I said to my hometown
that "I don't like you because you are not good enough".
But what do you do when your town can't employ you,you see we have an
education curriculum that trains us to work for other people with
already established businesses ,and so when your hometown does not
have such businesses and you want to make use of what you learned at
school, you won't have any other option but leave .
It is not only employment that makes people move, some people run away
because of crimes, once my musoga friend told me " no musoga leaves
village unless they have committed some crime and mostly defilement"
,others leave to aquire a so called quality education, others just want
to explore,to change their environment,to see something new,you see
there is a human mentality that there are greener pastures the other
side of the hill, and so however much you will give them all the
products and services offered elsewhere where they want to go,they
will still struggle to leave. One political analyst commenting about
those who oppose the NRM ruling part said " I will put it more
grafically, see animals in the zoo,you can give them all the care they
need, food water medication, but they will never stop their struggle to
get out".so we are not any different from animals, the difference could
be that for us we move on two limbs unlike them who use all the
four.take the example of Adam and his wife Eve in the garden of
eden, they had everything to themselves,God asked them just a simple
thing not to eat from one particular tree, but because of that human
curiosity to discover the unknown, they yielded to the temptation.
So many people leave their hometowns or villages in the case of uganda
just to explore .
However the question is,will they ever go back to their hometowns. They
say "somethings are best solved once you ask yourself ' why ' ",a
necessary why brings a necessary how.
if your hometown can't handle your profession then I don't think
anyone would want to move back to their hometown and endure the stress
of people asking them what they do for a living .For those with
horrible memories about their hometowns, they rather stay away and move
on with their new life.
Our hometowns don't seem to change a lot,the infrastructures and most
of all the people there, they are always loyal to their conservative
way of life, you could stay away for a reasonable long period of time
but once you go back you will yes find out they have added on some
years but with the same attitude, same arguments and almost same
everything.
And for some of us who lefty behind great loving, kind, funny, beautiful
people in our hometowns, the day we shall be required to choose a place
away from where we are now,I will happily choose home, bugisu land
Mbale.
They say " you can't go back to your father's home after you have
lefty" but do people ever wonder who said that ? who said you can't go
home.' East or waste home is the best ',some of you left wonderful
things and people behind ,fathers ,mothers, grans, friends and
shamelessly some lefty their children.Yes you can edit your hometown
but like the good book says " there is time for everything, you can as
well Undo what you have edited.
